An emotional detailing of the failures and struggles of the American Dream: immigration issues such as racism, poverty, and missing relatives' deaths back home; generational trauma haunting you; coming to a land of promise only to see its ugly underbelly, with broken and cruel systems. It tackled a lot of topics but in an incredibly realistic and sympathetic way. Every book like this I read pushes me farther left.

The ending was so touching and made me think of
a quote: "little children, love one another," which I thought was from Little Women but is apparently from the bible lol
