A dark, glittering unraveling of a book that I devoured far more quickly than I have any standalone fantasy novel in some time, let alone anything half as original. I'll happily fall under Kingfisher's spell many more times after this one, and the characters were enchantingly drawn for a stand-alone, developing true heart, animosity, depth, and determination over its pages in a way I deeply enjoyed.
Lush and smoky as a fire in a storyteller's room, and strange as dark tea. I'll be recommending this out quickly!
