Overall, this was a good fantasy novella; more character centred and focused on the emotional journey of the protagonist, but also with just the right amount of political intrigue to raise the emotional stakes.
In just 100 pages, we get a sapphic romance, great worldbuilding inspired by pre-colonial Vietnam, and character development for our main and secondary characters.
The ending felt, however, incredibly rushed and an additional 20 pages wouldn't have hurt to make it more believable in the wider context of this world.
