Battle Royale: Remastered by Koushun Takami

4.0

I was pleasantly surprised just how much fun I had while reading this book, it made me feel excited about reading again. Despite being over 600 pages no parts of the story felt unnecessary, all the little details helped build connections to the characters (which made the plot that much sadder) and show their different personalities and how they'd react in these extreme circumstances. Battle Royale focused more on the psychological aspects of being put in a program where you're forced to kill or be killed, as opposed to critiquing the system that put said program in place. I really appreciated reading all the different inner monologues and reasonings the characters had that made them do certain things and act a certain way. Some really sad moments, some shocking ones and a whole lot of gore and bloody, graphic, extremely detailed descriptions of fights, injuries and the killings.
Great fun!! 4.5/5
