This did not live up to the musical in my opinion. I feel like the songs from the show were where all the raw emotion came from and without them the story was just ok. I don’t think I really liked Evan in this book, I couldn’t connect to him like I do in the musical. I did like that we got to see Connor’s point of view a bit and learn more about him. That’s what was missing from the show for me, more about Connor. I also liked that there was more to Evan and Zoe’s relationship in the book, they actually talked, went on dates and made plans for the future. Overall I’d say that if you’re a fan of the show, you should read this. If you haven’t seen or heard the show and don’t plan to, I’d pass on this novel.
