Maybe if I hadn't known the masterpiece that is Gone With the Wind I would have liked this book more. But I couldn't buy this Scarlett character or the events of the book as a realistic companion to the original. I couldn't shake the feeling that this book was like a precursor to Internet fan fiction where a inferior writer plays out her fantasies for characters she is obsessed with.
