Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke

5.0

It was the book cover that attracted me, though I was not aware of Rainer's work. I returned home, searched for this book, and was glad I picked the right option.

It is my first time reading letters written by an author, and I am glad I initiated with Rainer's. Every note has its theme to grab - a lesson of a lifetime you should hold onto.

Simply splendid!

Some points that I could learn vividly from the book are the following:
Cherish the questions like closed rooms or strange books till answers appear themselves.
Distances do not mean anything when someone is close to your heart - perhaps we have to hold onto hope for such.
A world resides within you, and you need to indulge in it first and foremost.
On sorrows will help you reach your new destinations - we are not required to look beyond the sight but have immense patience for ourselves and our paths.
Be part of your solitude when sadness is wrapping you around.
Art is the only way of living knowingly or unknowingly.
All feelings that uplift you are pure.

My favorite lines from the book:
Do not think that the man who seeks to comfort you lives untroubled among the simple and quiet words which sometimes do you good. His life has much hardship and sadness and lags far behind you. If it were otherwise, he could never have found those words.
