A bit more long winded than book 2 but the second part makes up for that. Something that I noticed (in book 2 as well) is that everything is told in first person, but certain thoughts, used for example to describe the surroundings, don't always seem fitting for the character that is thinking them, they seem more like the writer's own thoughts. Because of this I sometimes felt like I lost the connection with the characters.
