Pew by Catherine Lacey

i enjoyed the writing style, but the plot felt very meandering. that being said, i think it was a great exploration of attitudes and lives in the south, and a very unique read.
even in the end, when you find out what event they have been building up to, it still felt like the plot was very thin. i don't mind a thin plot, but it also felt like it was trying to lead the reader into thinking that there would be some kind of crazy twist. i think that the festival they have is an interesting idea, but it also didn't feel very different from the rest of the book because throughout the whole book people treated pew like they were a non-entity, and therefore confessed a lot of their secrets & feelings to them. after reading the whole rest of the book, the festival felt very par-for-the-course.
