The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway
4.0

I continue to be drawn to wartime fiction. This book follows four people through a brief period of time during the siege of Sarajevo. The conditions in which they live are horrendous and you really sense their despair. But the book balances their despair with hope by including the main character, the cellist. We don't find out how they are all related until deep into the book, but there is a thread that ties them all and it has more to do with emotion than with physical attributes or events.

For a 225-page book, it is not as fast of a read as you might think, it took me two nights to work through it and as I often do, I found it difficult to get into the story in the beginning. But the character of Arrow is particularly wonderful and she makes you want to keep reading to find out how she fares in the story.
