The Last Bear
by Hannah Gold
I wanted to like this book much more than I did. It was a cute animal fantasy story that brought attention to the impact of climate change on Arctic life. However, I realized about halfway through that the narration style challenged me because it was as if the author tried to record a bedtime story that you would tell to a child -- one that was meant to be told over time, not written down. Don't get me wrong, the descriptions of the setting and of the protagonist's emotions were lovely, but they were seriously hampered by the overall style of the storytelling.
