Meet Me at the Crossroads is less about the doors that mysteriously appear around the world and more about one young woman's journey with grief after losing her sister. Nevertheless, Giddings has written a spell-binding novel that haunted me long after I finished reading.
Besides exploring the profound ways grief can alter our identity and our future, Giddings takes a sharp look at the role faith plays in our lives, and calls attention to issues of race, privilege, and influencer culture. She skillfully weaves together tender moments with scenes of great suspense. I was often tempted to look ahead.
Beneath the ghost story and portrait of grief is a beautiful ode to friendship and chosen family.
Many thanks to HarperCollins/Amistad Books and Edelweiss for the advance copy. This review is my honest opinion.
