The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White

4.0

4.5/5 ⭐

Because if we had grown to be this way as a society through nature, surely nature itself was as corrupted and malformed as Victor's monster.

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein shouldn't be this good. It's by far the best retelling I have ever read and, somehow, it makes me enjoy the original way more.

White does not miss an opportunity to praise Shelley's work but she also doesn't pass on criticizing it when need be. She writes all her characters in depth and flawed, makes them relatable, lovable.

I was actually invested in the relationships, my heart broke a million times. I did not wanna see any of these characters hurt, well except for the obvious exception
