The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix

3.0

This is somewhere between a 3 and 4 star read for me.

Rating in a word: enjoyable!

It’s no secret around here that I love anything Grady Hendrix writes. I think his humor and social commentary mixed with absolutely unique thriller story lines keeps me coming back.

As much as I really liked this story as a whole, I felt like I could have been reading just another slasher thriller. Was it a good slasher thriller? Absolutely. It kept me on my toes and was full of action and twists. Although I found it hard to keep track of all the characters, I thought they were dimensional and interesting. I definitely feel like we could easily get spin-off stories from any of their perspectives and it would still work.

I just honestly felt this was missing the oomph I have felt from all other Hendrix books. I was missing the humorous notes and undertones that I found myself searching for. I think the book overall shed an interesting light on trauma and bonds that come from it. It was a good old, fast-paced thriller that read like a slasher movie and overall I thoroughly enjoyed it!
