The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen
4.0
I really enjoyed all four of Sarah Addison Allen's novels. If I were to rank them according to preference, I'd probably go with: The Peach Keeper, The Girl Who Chased the Moon, Garden Spells, and the Sugar Queen, but I did like them all pretty equally.
I'm very interested that every book -- save for perhaps Girl/Moon? -- incorporates a story of man against woman violence. It's very much part of the story in Garden Spells (her first) and much less part of the story in the Peach Keeper (where it happened in the past). Given this fairly constant element in her stories, it makes me wonder what Sarah Addison Allen's past experience with such violence has been.
She really is a very pretty writer (in terms of her language, not her physical person, though I'm sure she's that, too) and I have thoroughly enjoyed all of these books and wish there were more to consume!
