The Sheep Look Up by John Brunner
5.0
Lot's of people seem put off by the book's format and pacing. I think that might have a lot to do with their looking for and expecting a consistent narrative. If you read blurbs about the book and expect to find this:
Environmentalist Austin Train is on the run. The “trainites,” a group of violent environmental activists, want him to lead their movement; the government wants him dead; and the media demands amusement. But Train just wants to survive. -From Goodreads
you will be disappointed.
Rather, I would suggest you approach the book as you would the news. Many have listed Brunner's predictions and it is an impressive list; however, I think the most impressive literary extrapolation Brunner made was making a book that feels just like Doomscolling during the Trump years.
