My first thought upon finishing this was what the fuck. And truly, Ottessa Moshfegh, what the fuck.

I so desperately wanted to like this book. My first introduction to Ottessa Mosfegh was 'My Year of Rest and Relaxation', which I loved, so I had pretty high expectations going into this. However, I was disappointed. The point of view was all over the place, to the point where it was taking me out of the story because I was so confused. The characters were extremely unlikeable, with only a handful having any redeeming qualities. And look, I can handle a bit of grossness. But some parts of this book were just too much for me and felt like they were gross and disturbing for the sake of being gross and disturbing.

Overall, it was just kind of nothing. A lot happens while not much happening at the same time. The characters don't go anywhere and the story tends to go round in circles. I think, to sum it up, the story was just plain boring.
