This is the third installment in the Stillhouse Lake series, and I recommend reading this series in order.

This is a dark, suspenseful read. It was "fun" (?)  trying to figure out what was going down in this small, backwards town.  So much happens and at times it seems like too much, but that's good, as it keeps it unpredictable. Some scenes are quite graphic and it's breathtaking (in a bad way) to think, and realize, that there are crazies out there like in this story.

This was my least favorite book in the series, so far; but i still enjoyed it. Overall, this book moved at a slower pace than the other books in the series, which contributes to the lower rating.

One of my issues with this one was Gwen walking into a likely inferno and taking her kids with her. The whole time I'm yelling at her in my head, "what are you thinking? What are you doing?" But, it's fiction, and if she hadn't taken the call and felt she needed to help, there wouldn't have been a story. 🤷‍♀️ But I was still irritated. As with the second book, I did enjoy the head jumping and getting the POV from various characters.

The story begins with one arc, adds another, and then adds a third. At times you're left wondering why, but it's all nicely interwoven and wrapped up in the end. And, the overall arc brings about a transition to a new storyline and path for Gwen, et al, to travel. I do look forward to starting the next book.

This review is my own opinion and will be cross-posted.
