I think this book may have been closer to a 5 star for me if I had read it physically.
This is a story about suffering. The worst kind of suffering imo. An individual so deeply wounded that they end up causing and feeding off of the sorrow of others for power. Babies taken from their mothers and abandoned to the witch of the woods.
This is a story about abandonment, adoption, trauma, magic, whimsy, hope, love.
If you have a child who is more sensitive this might be a book to read and talk about together. If you have a child who has dealt with trauma from abandonment this might be one to skip… or at least read it yourself first and have discussions.
The topic of adoption is a vast and very heavy one. Filled with loss from the beginning. In this book you see that primal wound on display.
I wondered if the author was adopted herself, and if not then how an adopted person would have written this story. I wondered how/if it would change at all.
I wouldn’t recommend for younger ages.mentions slitting throat
