As a Middle Eastern/ Arab person, seeing my people’s culture, food, practices, even décor being represented was so comforting.
But the actual book felt like it was trying to do/ be so many things that, in the end, it was stretched too thin. Having scratched the surfaces at so many things but diving into none. And a small poke, but the way the author described things always seemed off. Much detail was put into small things and not into more important things (like describing scenery/ the environment).
I will say though Hafsah Faizal has a beautiful way with words, which definitely made me keep reading the books
