mrtheprofessor 's review for:
Monstrous Regiment
by Terry Pratchett
I'm just going to copy and paste my review from Shelfari. If I read it again, I may have a different position, but this was my reaction right after finishing it:
"For a book, this was pretty good, pretty funny. For a Discworld novel, for a Terry Pratchett novel, I found it very disappointing. Probably because I had very different expectations of the novel. From the outset, it seemed like the war being fought was for pretty vague reasons that not many people remembered. They bring this up some other times in the novel but it's not really the main point. What I got out of it was it doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, both sexes are just as capable of doing incredibly pointless violent things for stupid reasons. I think Equal Rites made a better case for, um, equal rights."
