Dog Days by Ericka Waller

5.0

Trigger Warning of: Suicide, Mental Health, Spousal Death.

This is a book that I will be coming back to. It feels as though it is a kick in the ass for those of us who are going through life not appreciating everything that it is. It was much more emotional than I had anticipated and I’m sad that it sat on my TBR shelf for so long!

I found I was able to connect with each character, Lizzie, George and Dan. Each have their own quirks, but make you feel as though you’re their friend throughout the book.

I can see how people could be misled by the title, hoping for a more “dog heavy” book, but I found that the way Waller was able to weave the dogs conscious and unconscious thoughts and mannerisms into the novel was astounding.

There were twists I didn’t see coming, love stories that developed and an overall connection of characters I am happy became intertwined.

I will for sure recommend this book to those who would not be triggered by its emotional heavy weight.
