Wicked Beauty
by Katee Robert
Wicked Beauty was a mild let down after Electric Idol. I think partly because the relationship dynamics felt rushed and partly because the whole book was mainly smut with mild plot. Obviously I wasn’t looking for a masterpiece. I think that because there were three people in the relationship, Robert’s felt the need to extend sex scenes to all three perspective, which didn’t always feel necessary.
I wanted to root for Helen, and while she did pull some badassery, she also was whiny and so self involved. I did like the therapy rep and how she was actively trying to better herself after a traumatic childhood.
Achilles and Patroclus felt interchangeable, one just an asshole and the other an over thinker.
Trying to explain this world made me realize that the world building is subpar, especially now that there may be other areas outside of Olympus coming into play. I can’t really tell if Olympus is supposed to be in the real world or its own world.
I like the girl audio reader, but the male reader sounds like the prince from Shrek 2 and it’s not my favorite.
I do plan on finishing the series, but I don’t know how much more I can handle of people calling themselves monsters.
