Absolutely fantastic! Twenty-nine amazing women, twenty-nine interesting stories and wonderful artwork.
Many of these women, I was already familiar with, but did not know many of the details that Ms. Bagieu provides. Others, I had never even heard their names before. All of them were fascinating.
The book starts with Clementine Delait, born in 1865, a bearded lady who embraces being different and uses it to her advantage. I loved learning about this woman.
The book ends with Peggy Guggenheim, heiress and lover of modern art. She was the black sheep of her family and trusted her instincts when it came to art. She was friends with and supporter of Kadinsky, Pollack, Ernst, Calder and Tanguy, to name a few.
And in between, women of every stripe are covered in this book. All amazing and all worth reading about.
