The Round House
by Louise Erdrich
A moving coming-of-age story of a thirteen year old boy living on the reservation in the wake of his mother's brutal rape. Beautiful writing and imagery, some information tribal law - where it intersects and conflicts with US law in the persecution of crimes, as well as Chippewa culture and history. I especially enjoyed the emphasis on storytelling and the use of these stories to help the narrator make sense of life in the aftermath. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was easy to listen to, seemed correct in his pronunciation of Chippewa words and phrases that I would have mangled had I not listened to the story.
