Morrighan: The Beginnings of the Remnant Universe
by Mary E. Pearson
I already read this novella quite some time ago, after reading the first three books in the trilogy, but reading an e-book or actually having a hardcover in your hands are of course two different things. So, when I saw they were FINALLY releasing a physical copy of this tale I had to have it and of course I also had to re-read for the bonus content.
It has clearly been a while since I've read this story. Although there were small things I could remember it almost felt like I was rediscovering this tale. I was at the very least not able to identify the bonus chapters. Which means that my memory is not that great, but also that the author included the bonus chapters in a very natural way.
I love how small and big this story is at once. In a way this is a romance. A heart breaking romance. A romance between two people who shouldn't be together and can't be together. But it's also a story about survival. About finding a place in the world to feel at home. About safety and how far people are willing to go to survive. It's at times brutal and at times beautiful.
This hardcover edition looks insanely pretty too. Every page of the book is illustrated. There are some amazing page filling art pieces included and it really feels like holding a fairytale book with a special story. I'm incredibly happy that I could re-read the story. I'm even happier that I can add this story to the collection and display it on the shelf.
