Ah! I was presently surprised by this one.

Audiobooks are always hard for me to commit to because I need the perfect narrator and writing style or I just won't be able to get through them. This somewhat cozy mystery was everything I looked for in an audiobook.

Going into this, I very obviously expected this to be somewhat dog related, but not to the extent that it was. I will admit that it threw me off a little bit, but I quickly grew to love this aspect of it, especially since I am a dog lover.

I really really love a good cozy mystery that is set in a small beach town so picking this one up was a no brainer.

Cozy mystery is the perfect categorization for this because it's not fast-paced or "on your edge of the seat with white knuckles" enough to consider it a thriller. The book focuses heavily on the MC's love for dogs and meeting the new neighborhood before the mystery aspect really takes focus. I had a hard time with this because I am used to fast paced, action packed, thrillers. But once I adapted my mindset to cozy mystery, it was easy to enjoy. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed in comparison to the pacing of the rest of the book, but overall, this didn't take too much away from the rest of the plot.

A perfect beach reach, plane read, weekend read, etc. Not too heavy, but just enough to keep you invested. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the series plays out.
