Ash Persaud has found the love of her life in Poppy Morgan. A whirlwind romance leads her to a party on Brighton Beach at New Years Eve where she plans to tell Poppy she loves her. But before midnight she’s ordered home by her mother. Rushing back, a chance encounter with a car ends her life just before midnight.
The last person to die before midnight on New Year’s Eve is called to become a Grim Reaper. So Ash is forced to join other reapers in ensuring souls are passed to Charon. She is now unrecognisable to anyone she isn’t currently reaping. So if anyone she knew before does recognise her, she knows they will only have hours at most to live.
You can guess where that is going.
This is a very touching sapphic YA about love and how you spend the precious time you have with those you love. I did totally tear up several times through this which, admittedly is a low bar for me where the topic of death is concerned. It was also lovely to see some Brighton rep too!
