Maybe Don’t Think Too Hard About It

This is a twisty, pulpy read that I couldn’t put down. It’s a technically ambitious piece of writing that often toes the thin line between subverting and reinforcing negative stereotypes. Some of what is going on in this book is pretty clearly telegraphed early on. It’s like reading a compelling mystery novel that actually does contain the clues needed for the reader to solve at least part of it themselves. And that was engaging and made for an exciting and hard to put down read.

I’m docking a star for the unbelievably stupid afterword where the author tries to take this wild mess and someone how paint it as a loving tribute to those who suffer from a specific mental illness. Girl, come on. You are fooling no one. Every author researches for their writing. You don’t need to act like your research is somehow superior and important. It’s a pulpy horror novel, not a dissertation.
