this was one of the reading experiences of all time bc i read the first half exclusively while in line for coffee over 2 weeks and then the last half right in a rush right before the ebook was due. anyway this book is super acclaimed for being a critique of race in publishing and it super lives up to that. i just found myself struggling to get invested in the characters and was not a huge fan of the structure. also idk i thought everett's the trees was really really good and maybe this book disappointed me relative to those expectations.
