The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls
by Anissa Gray
This book is the story of three women, sisters, always hungry for something: love, adventure, acceptance, perfection. It’s also the story of two girls—twins, practical orphans, trying to come of age in a community that would rather be without them. It deals with issues of figurative and literal hunger, and questions like how do you care for a person when you just don’t have the means?
This book is tackling so much, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming. It feels like a normal progression of life circumstances that reaches a climactic point right as the book begins. It’s a coming-of-age book in many ways, but certainly not the typical kind. In the end it’s about surviving.
