A Book of Days by Patti Smith
this is going to be more of a mini review as it’s a very short book with little writing in it. i loved this idea of the combination of visual art & literature, especially his it portrays social media in a positive light. i know social media has really spiralled into a chaotic organism of trends & beauty standards but i believe this book exhibits what apps like instagram was purely designed for, expressing yourself through photos. seeing the travels & inspirations of Smith’s life rather than imagining it is such an eye opener into who she truly is, as well as the person who has written such wonderful books & songs. although i love the meaning of the book, i think that it lacks in the storytelling narrative & purposefulness. the variety of media is lovely to include yet many ‘days’ feel like random snapshots that don’t hold much value as others & this is definitely not a book that should be read like i did: chronologically & completed in two days. i believe this book, a collection of moments in a year, fits better as what one would call a coffee table book, picked up once in a while for a light of inspiration & whimsical imagining. i also have decided not to give it a star rating cause there’s little to rate in terms of plot & characters etc. this wasn’t as mini as i thought it would be.
