This is a re-read, which makes it easier to consider how each book and pairing fits into the overall series. It’s easier to compare to the books that come after. With this book, there is so much focus on moving the story forward that the main pairing (Kieran & Bennet) falls second and compared with the rest of the series, feels the weakest.

I do appreciate that the storyline starts taking shape. We learn more about the shifter world outside of the pack, the council and Rick’s father’s desire for a strong pack (aka the Kincaid Pack). I’m only slightly disappointed with the relationship side of the story. This is not insta-love (for which I am glad), so there are some really sweet moments of Bennet trying to woo Kieran but because of the lack of pages available, when they do come together, the relationship feels slightly forced.

I loved having a Bennet-focused book in the series. Bennet is one of my favourite characters from the first book and even more so as the series continued. He is the serious second-in-command who enjoys naked naps in the sun. Bennett is both a protector and a nurturer, desperate to care for Kieran. Kieran on the other hand, is my least favourite character in the series, only because he tends to fade into the background. As the series continues, he becomes a bit forgettable.
