South of Broad
by Pat Conroy
FIRST LINE REVIEW: "It was my father who called the city the Mansion on the River." Charleston. One of the most beautiful cities I've visited and in this rambling novel by one of my favorite novelists, we get a love story to that city. I wish the writing (editing) were better this time around. Tends to be clunky with characters telling each other what they already know for the benefit of the reader's information. But still a powerful tale of love, friendship and family.
