I've read this book once several years ago, not really knowing what I was getting into. Back then I burned through 1.5 books and then dropped it, because it exhausted me too much.
This time I listened to the audiobook, and it helped me pace myself. Also, I feel that it's important to be emotionally prepared for a story like this. Definitely check out the trigger/content warnings, this is not a light read.
The second time around I enjoyed the story a lot more, perhaps partly because of the wonderful narration. All of the voices felt really distinct and the emotions always fit the moment very well too.
