The Bodyguard by Katherine Center
5.0
"People loving you for your best qualities is not the same as people loving you despite your worst."
A badass and unsuspecting female main character who could kill you in a variety of ways who is the bodyguard to a swoon-worthy Hollywood hunk? Yes, please!
Despite Hannah's character being a badass, she also had such an interesting vulnerability to her that made her lovable and relatable. She was self-aware of her issues, like running away from her problems, but recognized the difficulty that comes with addressing them despite her self-awareness.
I have a soft spot for Hollywood characters in books as it's cool when an author researches what life is like for the stars when the curtain is pulled back and this book was no different. Jack was a fun character with a lot of charm that I really enjoyed from the beginning. Loyal almost to a fault and his empathy made me adore him. I loved that while Jack's family did come with a lot of baggage, it allowed for a story that portrays grief and hurt in a variety of ways for each character. The banter between Jack and Hannah was adorable and you can't help but swoon over their relationship.
I did feel like the whole interaction after the heart-dropping scene towards the end passed over what had happened rather easily and with little discussion. Which felt a little odd due to how serious it was, but maybe I missed something. I'll probably reread this book at some point just to see.
Overall, if you're looking for your next comfort read with a great story and great characters, then this is it!
