weeeeeeeeeell

i don’t want to say too much. i really enjoyed Amra’s The Cat I Never Named, which was YA. i picked up this one even tho it’s MG because i try to do buddy reads with my little brother + read any books with Muslim and/or Balkan rep.

so, i think it might be for slightly older than 8-10. maybe 10-14, due to the length and often discusses these boys and crushes with a bit too much passion for that age group (imo).

i think the story itself is 10/10. so powerful. the half bosnian/ half serb. ooooooo chills. ESPECIALLY AFTER THE “where they are now” chapter which i really appreciated.

the mention of persecuted albanians!!!!! YUPPPPP. the discussion of having family members with disabilities. the passing of loved ones. friendships. deadly nationalist propaganda and supremacy.

overall, i am glad i picked this up. i think it might fall slightly under the younger half of YA than overall MG, but anywho
