Under the Jaguar Sun
by Italo Calvino
I wanted to give this book a higher rating for only one of the stories- "A King Listens"- but the other stories turned me off so much that in the whole I'm glad to be done with the book and would not pick it up again. The book has short stories based on the five senses- and while there are moments that are enjoyable, Italo Calvino's sensuality is somewhat disgusting- as he draws parallels with cannibalism and death. This book was very animalistic and seemed to delight in vulgar descriptions that, frankly, were not pleasant or interesting to read.
