The short stories are very diverse, some have fantasy elements, some are pure contemporary YA. Some are more hopeful, others have a darker side. Overall, I enjoyed the balance.
The stories are all connected in their setting, with mentions of the other stories here and there, which made the whole book more interesting than just reading the stories on their own (but you could easily to it too).
