The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

Listened to this all via audiobook, and I think that’s important because a lot of reviews say this is a slow build & that wasn’t entirely my experience. I believe the narrator played a part in that.
I loved how different it is from so many fantasy novels & GOD the representation. All of our characters are so complex & I think the story does a great job showing nuance of perceived morality. I think this is a GREAT story for someone who may need or want a break from the current YA/NA fantasy trend.

YES IF: you like political fantasy, fully developed characters, looking for South East Asian & East African representation, romance subplot.
NO IF: you need something super fast paced, was romance to be focal point, need spice.
