paleflyer 's review for:
Lorna Doone
by R.D. Blackmore
I never really got into this book. It was long, drawn out, dull, and John Ridd as the narrator was less than stellar. He's a man who thinks of all women only for their beauty, and detests their brains (his poor sister Lizzy, who is an avid reader, is continually put down). He feigns humility by continually alluding to his slow mind, but obviously is pretty egotistical.
Ruth was the tragedy in this story, her emotions toyed and played with. She was a much better love interest and had some fire. But I am exceedingly glad John loved Lorna exclusively, because he did not deserve Ruth.
