The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu

4.0

This book was definitely not something I normally read, I would definitely classify it in the realm of romanized historical fiction. Not that anything was particularly romantic in nature, only that it wasn't following historical events. Everything was dark and gritty. It follows years of rebellions against an empire, mostly centering around Kuni Garu and Mata Zyndu, who are two totally different people with totally different outlooks on life. Each of them has what the other lacks, Kuni has all the finesse and tact while Mata has the brawn and ruthlessness. Seeing the development and deterioration of their friendship is the essence of this book and I have to admit that I was a little saddened at the end, which surprised me.

All in all, I think it was a very good story without being over jargon and info filled. I think it had just the right balance, though at times I will admit to getting lost in some of the names and places.
