Submerged City by Austin P. Sheehan

4.0

Submerged City is a captivating story told from the perspectives of two very different protagonists. Based in a dystopian, flooded Australia the story covers an array of current political concerns.

Austin P. Sheehan has done a marvellous job bringing the world of post-flood Melbourne to life, as someone mostly unfamiliar with the city of Melbourne I was still able to easily follow the setting and craft an image within my mind of the city.

As mentioned it does tackle some hard themes, specifically one of the characters deals with physical/sexual assault in scenes that may be triggering for some readers - though this is flagged by the author in the opening pages.

Along with hard themes, the story also carries a message for hope and acceptance. It's a fantastic first novella and I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.
