The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty

adventurous challenging dark emotional funny hopeful inspiring sad slow-paced

3.5

This novel was very divisive amongst my book club, which is a good thing! Overall I enjoyed this novel, with unique characters and unique storytelling. I have to agree with others that it feels a little too overstuffed and writing comes across a little pretentious at times. The author has a bizarre sense of humor, which I appreciated. Gunty touches on several important societal issues: the foster care system, impoverished communities, the failures of capitalism, predatory men, and global warming, to name a few. I wish that the author had focused on fewer  themes and gone more in-depth.
