Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

I adored this book. It’s not often I see myself represented on the pages of the book, especially in fantasy. I too am the nerd or the scribe that has tons of knowledge and facts in their head, and that people easily discount as meek or weak because of. So it was great seeing that represented on the page. However, I will say that the worldbuilding and the amount of information that Violet goes over/recites in her attempts to keep herself calm can be overwhelming, and I honestly can say I internalized like none of it. The attention and banter were off the walls, and I was absolutely in love with Xaden Riorson from like the first time that Mira even mentioned him at conscription day. Threshing and the aftermath were completely unexpected, and I loved the way the book took a turn. Violet’s signet manifesting was also superb. The giant plot twist re daggers I didn’t see coming!! I knew there was going to be some type of tumultuousness that would offset the relationship due to the general happy romantic vibes that they were getting into. I would’ve been disappointed if there hadn’t been. We can’t have a honeymoon scene THAT early. The scene on the battlefield absolutely killed me. It was heartwrenching and real, and was the first time in a while that I cried over a book. All in all, a superb book. I started Iron Flame almost immediately after, but then I stopped and held off til now when I’ve resumed again so that I don’t have to wait as long for Onyx Storm. Can’t wait!!
