I'd started this book several times over the years, but only when I was borrowing someone else's copy and I didn't have the time to read the whole thing.  I've been slowly working my way through Tiny Beautiful Things (which I am loving) and my hazy memories of the background of this book have informed my reading of it.

Unlike a lot of other readers, I much preferred the earlier sections of the book that focused more on her childhood, her marriage, and the death of her mother.  Once the narrative returned to the place where the book started, where she threw her boot off a cliff, I felt like the drive had faded from the book a bit.  I am not one for uplifting narratives.  In fact, I hate them.  I do not want to feel like I am supposed to be inspired.  I do think this book dragged on a bit too long when there wasn't really anything new to be said.

Sometimes books are popular for a reason.  This one certainly is.
