Fence, Vol. 5: Rise
by C.S. Pacat
i’m really angry with this story:
- it takes too long for a volume to come out,
- there seems to be no connection to the written novels and thus losing all the character build-up and story altogether. Like it happened, and it is even acknowledged at one point, but for the story altogether it doesn’t feel like it. Yes, I mean, Seiji and Nicholas’ relationship seems deeper and more advanced but that could have also been done in a couple of panels
- i would be fine with all the fencing rules and technique explanations if there were more updates, more progression of the story or more substantial character interaction, but given how few we’re given, how short the volumes are and how long it takes (i mean, the last one came out nearly two years ago and we’re only five volumes in), they take up much space
- and there are some horrible panels here (for how long it takes, the drawings could be a little more polished, and I’m not even talking about the change in style and the weird chibi big-head character moments), like Johanna was really mad at Aiden this volume

*** i was going to add some screenshots but I don't know how so... you'll have to check for yourselves
I don’t know if I’ll keep up with this series. At this point I would prefer for it to be a written novel series with a couple of character drawings thrown in there…
