Richard teaches art at an elementary school with his new wife and stepson. Life is peaceful and the past does not haunt him anymore. Until Richard finds the school rabbit ritualistically murdered with a birthday card for Richard. Richard doesn’t have a birthday … but Sean does. Richard’s past comes hurtling back and the white lie Sean told will be unravelled.

When @escapereality4now let me know this book was inspired by true events I was completely sent adrift. I didn’t even know what to do with myself so of course I googled the true crime case. My discomfort doubled and the words became even more haunting. Horror became real life horror and Whisper Down The Lane was a fusion of horror and true crime, and the story took on a life of its own, completely chilling.

My favourite part of this book was the buildup. From page one to the end I could feel the tension growing tighter. The pacing of both points of views was carefully curated and the paralleled crescendo throughout the book was executed perfectly. I loved the mirroring and the foreshadowing.

This was a intricate look at how a white lie can completely change and destroy lives. Definitely recommend this to true crime and horror fans. Thank you @quirkbooks for sending a copy my way, 4✨ for this chilling story that turned out to be a lot more fact than fiction. I need to read more by McLeod Chapman!
