A surprising new favorite! I typically don’t like fantasy books at all, but I loved this. It combines fantasy with a murder mystery / crime procedural plot, and that meshed better than I expected. The characters were so real and thoughtful, and the book’s themes of love and friendship sold me on reading the rest of the series soon! Spoilers: For my people who need to know if the dog dies before they read: The dog DOESN’T die even though it gets a little tense.
