Gone Girl
by Gillian Flynn
the twist in this novel was just as shocking as it was welcomed. you spend the first part of the book in nick’s pov, and partway through you realize that this guy SUCKS. he is an inattentive husband who disregards his wife, blames her for how stifled she is, and then cheats on her.
by the time you get to amy’s pov and see how she perfectly frames nick for murder and goes on the run, your damn near rooting for her. she’s obviously crazy, there’s indications of narcissism, and she’s so self disciplined she could harm herself, starve herself, and keep herself captive. she quite literally frames multiple people for things we’re (not quite sure?) they actually did.
this book makes you THINK. are you willing to be truly committed to the person you choose, beyond when the thrill expires? can you actually be who you are with the person you choose, can you accept them for who they are?
“What are you thinking? How are you feeling? Who are you? What have we done to each other? What will we do?”
